We are big bedtime tv watchers. There are three requirements for a great bedtime television viewing experience. The show must have:
- No drama
- Low intensity
- Require little commitment
I want to be able to fall asleep peacefully, so any of the above are going to mess with my ability to do so. Basically, forget a bedtime viewing of Game of Thrones.?
Here are some of our bedtime favorites that help us to keep the peacefulness in our bedroom while we drift off to sleep.
THE OFFICE
We’re currently on our third, fourth or maybe seventh (who even knows?!) of watching The Office from the beginning. We love the humor and the quirkiness. It’s a comfy show for both of us to sit back and giggle at or doze off to. If you’ve never sat through it from beginning to end, you’re seriously missing out.
ANDY GRIFFITH
I did not grow up watching Andy, but Matt did. It took me years to get on board with watching it, but once I did, I loved it. It’s comforting to both of us to watch the small town problems and Barney’s antics play out. Another great one to fall asleep to.
WONDER YEARS
I grew up watching reruns of The Wonder Years and always enjoyed it. Back a few years ago, Matt and I started at the beginning and watched the entire show and man oh MAN we loved it. It makes you take a trip down memory lane remembering the things in your life that Kevin is experiencing throughout the series.
GOLDEN GIRLS
Y’all knew this one would be on here. Some of my earliest memories of life was watching The Golden Girls on Saturday nights at my Mawmaw’s apartment with her. She and I continued to watch reruns of it together for the rest of our years together. To say that this show was special to me would be a gross understatement. It’s witty, the writing and the acting are incredible, it’s a must watch for all adults.
DOWNTON ABBEY
The thing about Downton is that really nothing much ever happens in an episode, which makes for great bedtime tv. It’s slower paced and clean. I love everything about it.
I LOVE LUCY
Another of my all-time faves. I grew up on this show and I want Kenny to do the same. So much fun and so many laughs!
FRIENDS
You knew this one would be on the list too. I can’t get enough! And once you’ve watched it all the way through, it makes for great background or bedtime tv.
DESIGNING WOMEN
I grew up on this one too. I rediscovered my love for it after I had Kenny girl. Those late newborn nights were spent with my favorite girl tribe from Sugarbakers in Atlanta. I still watch it often on Hulu.
REBA
I’ve been a fan off this show since it originally aired. I can watch and rewatch it and never get tired of it. Van and Barbara Jean just crack me up!
PARKS AND REC
Matt and I are new to this one. We just started watching it and I’m not positive I’m totally invested. I do love that it feels similar to The Office, which is why I think it should make this list.
Matt often turns on some Bob Ross if he can’t sleep and it has to be one of the most soothing shows ever created. It’s mesmerizing to watch him create his masterpieces on canvas.
