hair care friday – fight that frizz!

hair care friday – fight that frizz!

I’ve been a long haired girl my entire life. Can you imagine how many hours I’ve spent drying my hair? Hundreds I’m sure! I grew up in Ohio and in the winter months I would dry my hair by the heat vents while lying on the floor (just like my mom!) But now that I live in much warmer climates, I’m able to let my hair air dry at least partially.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been using turban towels (Turbie Twist brand) to wrap up my wet hair as soon as I stepped out of the shower. I use these to keep my hair up and out of my face and leave it on while I’m doing my makeup. I usually leave my hair up in the towel for about 30 minutes or so.
We all know that rubbing your hair with a towel causes friction and frizz which ultimately can result in split ends. But what’s a long haired girl to do?
This week I tried something new that completely changed my hair drying experience.. I used an old t-shirt of my husbands to dry my hair instead of my turban towel. Wow! What a difference! I saw this idea on Pinterest and after doing a little research, it turns out this is an awesome idea. Not only is the cotton tee shirt super absorbent (my hair was much, much dryer with the tee shirt method than it was with a hair towel!) but it also causes much less friction and little to no frizz.
Swap this:
For this!
After showering, I squeezed all of the excess moisture out of my hair that I possibly could. I then wrapped my head with the tee shirt and secured it with a hair clip. I left it in place while I put on my makeup, as usual. When I took it out, I simply used the t-shirt to squeeze sections of my hair to remove any further moisture. I couldn’t believe how much less water was in my hair! I then dried and styled my hair as usual.
Some of you may have tried this before and are thinking that this isn’t new at all! You’re right, it’s apparently been known forever.. But it’s new to me!
I’ve read in multiple places that this method is extremely beneficial to curly haired girls since the cotton tee shirt allows your hair to keep is natural shape as opposed to towels.
So if you haven’t already tried the tee shirt drying method, give it a try and let me know what you think! Any old {clean} t-shirt will do!
Have a gorgeous day! xo
