Best Books for Fall to Feel Cozy

The temperatures are starting to drop, the leaves are starting to turn, so naturally it’s time to think about what we’re reading. It’s time to put away our beach reads and talk about the best books for fall.

This post is purely focusing on cozy reads, not spooky thrillers or anything themed for October or Halloween.

Think books that make remind you of Gilmore Girls. Cozy stories that make you want to curl up next to a fire with a cup of your favorite hot drink… For me it’s always coffee.

I want these novels to invoke feelings of warmth, coziness, and happiness.

Also, don’t forget to follow me on Goodreads to see what I’m reading in real time.

I’m linking each book to purchase on Amazon but also providing resources to show where you can read or listen to these titles for free. All you need is a library card to sign up for Hoopla or Libby, if you don’t already have an account.

Some titles are available on Kindle Unlimited (KU) or for free on Audible as well, like the classic, “Anne of Green Gables” which is narrated by an all-star cast.

These books are all fiction, not necessarily set in Autumn, but something about the story, setting, or character made me feel like it would make a good Fall read.

At the end of each title intro, I included my rating between 1 and 5 stars.

12 Fall Books I’ve Read

  1. Anne of Green Gables. I grew up watching the mini series and love this classic novel even more as an adult. You can read for free on KU or listen for free on Audible. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  2. Love and Other Words. Easily in my top three favorite books. This love story is a cross between My Big Fat Greek Wedding and The Notebook. I listened to this on Libby, then ordered a copy to keep in my library. This made the list because it’s the romance novel to curl up with. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  3. Magic Hour. I read this book awhile back and loved the storyline. It takes place in PNW and follows the mystery of an unidentified six-year-old girl who is found wandering in the woods alone. The small town setting is the main reason I chose this as a Fall read. Available on Libby. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  4. Book Lovers. It’s no secret that I’m not a huge Emily Henry fan. However, I loved the cozy bookshop vibes and small town setting in Book Lovers. Also fits into the Grumpy x Sunshine trope. I listened to this title on Libby. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  5. City Baker’s Guide to Country Living. This story felt so similar to the movie 1980’s Baby Boom starring Diane Keaton, which I absolutely love. If you’ve always dreamed of visiting New England in the Fall, love classic films such as Christmas in Connecticut, and dream of living out your days as an innkeeper like White Christmas, then this book is for you. I listened to this on Libby. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  6. A Season for Second Chances. This was an easy read, with the town being one of the main characters. If you love Stars Hollow, then you’ll enjoy this book. Set in a small seaside village named Willow Bay, the author takes you through the various fall and winter events. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
  7. Pumpkin Spice Cafe. Another Gilmore Girls-esque story with a tiny touch of mystery. Spicier than I anticipated. Even the author’s name is Laurie Gilmore! Available on Hoopla and $0.99 on Kindle. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
  8. The Dead Romantics. If you love the movie Just Like Heaven, don’t miss this book. It screams Fall, a ghost story without the spooky. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
  9. Assistant to the Villain. This is just such a fun book. Very similar vibes to The Princess Bride, complete with a tiny frog king who communicates with signs. So delightful that I couldn’t wait for the sequel to release- which I’m currently reading. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  10. Devotions for the Fall. Easily one of my favorite devotionals. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  11. Invisible Life of Addie Larue. This magical story spans many lifetimes. It tops so many “Best of” lists. Available to read on KU and Libby. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  12. The Unmaking of June Farrow. If you loved Timeless, you have to read this book. So magical and will make your heart sing. I listened to this on Libby. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  13. Funny Feelings. This book practically screams Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and your girl is HERE FOR IT. I love a funny book and this one follows an up and coming comedienne who is taxed with fake dating her manager who is secretly in love with her. The FMC gives total Jessica Day vibes with her awkward situations and hilarious retellings. Available to listen for free on Hoopla. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  14. The Match. This was a 3 star read for me. Cute, easy to read, feels a lot like a Hallmark movie. References to the autumn season is why this landed on the list. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
  15. Better Than The Movies. This book radiates Autumn vibes. If there was a book written that is literally every Taylor Swift song wrapped up into one story, this would be it. It will have you smiling till your cheeks hurt and giggling like a schoolgirl. The references to all of my favorite chick flicks was the icing on the cake. Yes, it is YA, but don’t let that scare you away. It’s the cutest story that you will leave you with the sweetest book hangover. Better Than The Movies is free to read with Amazon Kids+. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  16. Next of Kin. This book is so stinking cute. It gives total Ready or Not vibes, which I absolutely loved. The reason this book is considered for most Autumn book lists is the forward is dedicated to Gilmore Girls fans. Next of Kin is available on Hoopla. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  17. The Fall Back Plan. Unfortunately, this was a miss for me. I probably woul have nejoyed it more if I had read it instead of listening to it. The narrator for this book was painful to listen to. It’s basically every Hallmark movie in book form. It’s cute, but not great. You can read for free with Kindle Unlimited or Hoopla. ⭐️⭐️
  18. You, Again. This book was overhyped and underwhelming for me. It was trying VERY hard to be When Harry Met Sally, but just missed the mark IMO. ⭐️⭐️
  19. Pumpkin Everything. Very sweet, Hallmark-esque story. Second chance love; big city girl returns to her small home town in New Hampshire during peak leaf season. Available on Hoopla and KU. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
  20. But He’s My Grumpy Neighbor. A grumpy sunshine novel, as you can tell by the title. The book cover alone made me want to read it, but sadly the story wasn’t as cute as the cover. It is set in small town Georgia during Fall, but other than that, it was just an okay read. ⭐️⭐️
