I know I’m not alone in seeing the Billie razor literally all over the internet. It’s so hyped by virtually every blogger on Instagram. My question is… Is it really worth the hype?
I decided to put the Billie razor to the test and compare it to the Flamingo, which I see every time I’m at Target or shopping their website.
price comparison
Billie starter kit is $9 + free shipping. The set comes with the razor handle, two cartridges and a holder.
Flamingo starter kit is $9.99 and available in store or online at Target. The set comes with the razor handle, two cartridges and a shower hook.
how they measure up
I first tried my Billie (sent to me in a PR package) several months ago. It was so hyped that I had very high expectations. My first impression? I’ve never had worse razor burn in my life. I don’t even have sensitive skin. Like, at all. I could probably count on one hand the times in my life that I’ve had razor burn.
On the off chance that it was that one particular cartridge that was burning me, I decided to give it a second chance today. So I popped on the replacement head today and put it to the test.
I shaved my right leg with the Billie and my left with the Flamingo. I used the same shaving lotion for both legs to make sure it was fair.
Upon first swipe… The Billie glides across my skin much more smoothly than the Flamingo. The Flamingo has an aloe strip, but it doesn’t feel soapy or smooth. I actually thought the aloe strip was styrofoam until I read that it was aloe.?
I would like to mention that Billie is a clean beauty product and is rated very well by EWG.
the touch test
I waited about 10 hours after shaving and did a touch test to see which leg was smoother. Both Matt and I agreed, it was the Billie leg. This time, no razor burn. I’m wondering if I was sent a janky cartridge the first round? I’ve never had such torn up skin in my life. This time, however, I don’t seem to have a single nick, cut or bump.
To be quite honest, the left leg (Flamingo leg) is only a smidge less smooth than the Billie leg. It’s super smooth and no irritation at all.
Based on my findings from this very in-depth scientific experiment, I have to say that the Billie wins this round. But only by a hair… See what I did there??
Side note: I tried the Joy razor (the Walmart version of the Flamingo) back when we were living in Ohio and I wasn’t impressed at all with it. I don’t remember all of the reasons why I didn’t like it, but I do remember promptly tossing it in the trash. Not worth the $1 savings from the Flamingo or Billie.

I have a flamingo one with a men’s razor head and the women’s head didn’t work to well for me and so I would personally love to try Billie.
