Drugstore Lipsticks Tested

Drugstore Lipsticks Tested

A couple of months ago, I tested drugstore dupes for MAC lipsticks (the post can be seen here). I recently purchased a few new drugstore brand lipsticks to review for you. Enjoy!

From left to right: Flower Lipstick in “Camelia Charm”, Flower Lipstick in “Nude Narcissus”, Wet n Wild Lipstick in “Just Peachy”, Wet n Wild Lipstick in “Bare It All”, & Flower Lipgloss in “Baby’s Breath”

Flower Lipstick in “Camelia Charm“: As you can see, the consistency on my lips wasn’t quite even. That may be because I didn’t exfoliate my lips prior to applying, but still, I’d like to see more even coverage and less spotty coloring. The lipstick itself has a very perfumey scent leaving behind a distinct flavor. This color really is pretty on, but I would probably never wear it without applying a gloss over top to give it a more finished look. Cost: $6.98.
I’d rate “Camelia Charm” a 2/5.

Flower Lipstick in “Nude Narcissus“: This color is pretty sheer. If you use several layers of this lipstick, the resulting color is a perfect nude. It also has the same scent and taste as “Camelia Charm”, but I’m sure all the Flower Lipsticks do. I would definitely buy this lipstick again.. But I’m a huge sucker for a good nude lip! My lips feel really hydrated with Flower Lipsticks, which is a major plus. Cost: $6.98.

I’d rate “Nude Narcissus” a 4/5.

Flower Lipgloss in “Baby’s Breath“: shown here is “Baby’s Breath” layered over “Nude Narcissus.” I love love LOVE this lipgloss! It’s an exact dupe of Nars “Turkish Delight!” I love the opaque color, the consistency, the staying power.. I love it all! The scent and flavor is pretty much identical to the lipsticks. This is my absolute favorite drugstore brand lipgloss I’ve ever purchased! Cost: $6.98.. “Turkish Delight” costs $25.00 so clearly Flower Lip Glosses are a steal of a deal!

I’d rate “Baby’s Breath” a 5/5.

Wet n Wild Lipstick in “Just Peachy“: I really enjoy this color. It’s a beautiful pinky-peach color that layers nicely. You can easily go with one coat or five and be happy with the results. The consistency is great and not clumpy at all. The smell isn’t fantastic, but for the price, you can’t complain. This is a great lipstick! I’ll definitely be buying more Wet n Wild Lipsticks to try. Cost: $1.99.
I’d rate “Just Peachy” a 4/5.

Wet n Wild Lipstick in “Bare It All“: This is a very pretty opaque nude color lipstick. It has a definite peach/orange undertone as opposed to most nude lip products. The consistency is fabulous. The smell leaves much to be desired.. But again, with this price tag, who can notice? Cost: $1.99.
I’d rate “Bare It All” a 4/5.

I love a good nude and a pink lipstick! what is the best way to prep your lips before applying? so many of my lipsticks go all blotchy and just line my lips erhh, and i am on the mission to find the perfect autumn lipstick what do you think are the best shades for these? x

The best way to prep your lips is to exfoliate them first. I'd suggest using a scrub (maybe homemade with coconut oil & brown sugar!) Always always use a lipliner first.. If you're afraid to use a bright or dark colored liner, nude liners are no fail and work with any shade. For Fall I love seeing burgundy shades this year. My personal favorite Fall lip color is MAC Lipstick in Diva. Hope this helps! xo

Is the Flower line by Drew Barrymore?!

    • Angela Lanter

Diva is my favorite too. I really enjoy your blog. Have you ever tried FRESH's sugar lip polish? It's fantastic. Where did you purchase your FLOWER beauty items? I can't seem to find them other than online.

I haven't tried Fresh Lip Polish.. I love the Fresh lip balm line though! I bought my Flower products at WalMart here in New Orleans.. I was so excited because they JUST finally got in the Flower line! Check your local WalMart! If there's a specific product you'd like me to review, let me know! Thanks for reading. xo

  • I love lipsticks – especially the matte ones! But the problem is that my lips are so dry and I don't know what to do in order to exfoliate them properly. When wearing matte lipsticks I'm afraid that, if I apply some kind of lip balm underneath the lipstick, my lips won't get the matte finish I want.. I hope you understand what I mean.. Do you have any ideas what I could do?

Exfoliate those lips! That's your best option! Even if you just lightly scrub your lips with a damp (clean) washcloth before you apply your lipstick, your lips will be smooth since your scrubbing off the dead skin. I use my homemade exfoliator on my lips and face- I just melt some coconut oil in my hands (the warmth of your hands with quickly liquify the oil) and mix in some brown sugar and scrub my face & lips in circular motions for about a minute or so. Then wash your face as normal and voila! Sparkling, smooth skin! I hope this helps 🙂 xo

Great article, Angela! I have a question. Do you recommend the lip defoliator from E.L.F?

    • Angela Lanter

Thanks! I haven't tried it yet! The Targets in my area carry very few ELF products which is really disappointing since I really love trying their products out! xo

    I meant exfoliate?
