Laundry Room & Mud Room Reveal: Custom Laundry Room Cabinets
We are currently renovating a house in our hometown in NE Ohio. If you missed that major update, get caught up here.
In our Ohio house, the attached garage leads into a small landing that opens up the basement stairs, a door leading to the side yard, and straight ahead is the now laundry room/mud room combo. We also added the powder bathroom off the mud room, which allowed for an additional half bath to the floor plan.
Let’s take a stroll down memory lane and check out what this space looked like when we bought this house in 2022 at an auction.
Originally, this space was the den. The den, or family room/tv room, was a wood paneled room with original brown shag carpet. That carpet was so old and nasty that it literally broke apart as we rolled it up. YIKES.
The room had no lighting in it.
Yes, you read that right. There were zero lights in that room.
For the past +50 years (the house was built in 1970) the den was exclusively lit by table lamps.
Since the house is a ranch, I felt like it made so much sense to move the laundry room from the unfinished basement to the main level. Not only does it make life so much easier to have your laundry accessible to your main living space, but it makes the home even more attractive to prospective buyers should we decide to sell in the future.
In case you missed it, Matt and I walk you through the house prior to demolition in the video below. You can get an even better look at this space in the video.
After ripping out the carpet and wood paneling, we also raised the ceilings throughout the entire house. The original ceilings were not even 8′, so we lifted the ceilings to 9′ in most spaces. We went all the way up to the roofline in the great room since we have an open concept kitchen, living room, and dining room.
We decided to redesign the entire house floor plan. The den was divided up and became a mud room, laundry room and powder bathroom. The corner behind the laundry room is now a walk-in pantry accessible from the kitchen.
Once we had our framing in place, I knew I needed arched doorways.
This arched doorway is so dreamy. 😍
Custom laundry room cabinets were absolutely necessary for our design. We needed the cupboards on the laundry wall to match the bench and storage space on the mudroom wall since they are technically in the same room.
We hired a cabinetry specialist company from Amish country called Mullet Cabinet. Their work was absolutely flawless.
We chose the color 1905 Green from Magnolia Paint. This color has been the talk of the town. The amount of DMs I’ve received on Instagram inquiring about the paint color has been unreal.
1905 Green is this gorgeous jewel-tone green that pulls a tiny bit blue in certain lights.
For hardware, I chose the Vauxhall knobs and pulls from Restoration Hardware in the lacquered burnished brass finish. The combination of the green custom laundry room cabinets with the gold hardware is positively yummy.
Countertops were a harder choice for me. After talking with my good friend (and designer!) Lauren Kennedy, she helped me choose Caesarstone countertops in the “Cloudburst” print.
These counters were the perfect choice because they are a neutral compliment to the checkerboard floors. They’re not to matchy-matchy and not bright white, which just worked perfect for the space.
The real moment of this space is 100% the checkerboard floor.😍
The flooring is from Ann Sacks and we used their 18”x18” Nero Marquina and Silea Honed.
The Nero Marquina is the black marble squares with stunning white veining throughout.
Silea stone is what we used for the white squares which features veins of “wispy grey”.

For grout, we used Mapei brand grout in the shade “silver” which is absolutely perfect.
The marble tiling process was NO JOKE. So if you’d like to hear more about it, leave a comment.
Now that we have our countertops in place, we just need backsplash and the faucet installed and the laundry room will be complete.
What do you think about our laundry room makeover so far?
I love the green cabinets and the arched hallway! I can’t wait to see how it all turns out. You guys have done a great job!
