The closer we get to summer, the more I’m seeing sheer tops and dresses everywhere.  If you were raised anything like I was, you grew up with the understanding that ladies are to not show their undies in public.  My “undies” I mean bras and panties…  Those were to covered up, hidden and not talked about.  In fact, if my undies were showing, my Mawmaw would let me know by saying, “You’re telling your story,” and I knew exactly what she meant by it.

Well times have changed.  I think some of it started with Britney Spears.  I remember watching her “Oops I Did It Again” music video and not being able to believe that girls would ever wear their school uniforms like that…  Or that there were semi cute school uniforms out in the universe somewhere at all.  My uniforms in high school consisted of khaki slacks and baby blue polo shirts.  Can you say #attractive?  The fact that I had a boyfriend in high school at all in that getup is nothing short of a miracle…  But, then again, I did only have 12 kids in my graduating class, haha!

Back to the sheer tops…  This style of top is made to be worn with a pretty little bralette, like the one I paired this look with in today’s post.  When wearing a lighter colored sheer top, I like to pair it with a flesh toned (nude) bralette to keep the focus on the shirt.  If my top is darker, I sometimes like to pair it with a bright colored bralette to make a statement.

If a bralette feels like you’re just letting it all hang out, there are other options that are still cute, but will make you feel a bit more comfortable with the whole sheer trend.  A flesh toned camisole is always a safe bet, but will still keep the focus on the sheer top and not on anything underneath.  Another option is to pair the sheer top with a similar style (but well fitted) top in the same color.  Never double up two boxy style tops for fear of looking like you’re wearing a potato sack, because that ain’t cute, girl.

Just be comfortable in what you choose to wear.  There’s nothing sexier than a confident woman, and a confident woman feels good in what she’s wearing.

Thanks Michelle! Levi’s have been my favorite brand of jeans lately!

Seriously Michelle she was born for those jeans! Which makes it all the more disappointing that in a Britney Spears world she doesn’t flaunt what she’s got a little more! Not saying she needs to be a Kardashian but for the love of all the guys here flaunt it! There’s been a whole Reddit theme on her assets, and with that pose where she’s sticking it out just a little she’s just purposefully being a tease!

  • You look adorable in that top! I completely agree with you that the older generation is still not comfortable with the idea of a bralette being used as a fashion statement. A couple of weeks ago I wore and open back shirt with an aqua blue lacs bralette. My mom did not care for the fact that my bra was showing. I however think it’s a heck of a lot cuter than having your bra clasp showing. I don’t see anything wrong with having a bralette being seen…it’s just a piece of fabric.

Thanks Kate!! If I showed up to visit my Mawmaw wearing anything that showed my bralette, she’d whip me. Seriously! It’s such a generational thing, but it’s so “in” with our generation right now! 🙂
