Something that’s been requested frequently lately is a post dedicated to workwear.  I hear you and I get you.  I worked in corporate America for 7 years before quitting to pursue all things Hello Gorgeous.

I loved dressing up for work.  I’m probably in the minority on that one, but I loved putting in the effort to create “office fashion” as I like to call it.  During those years, I learned to spend my money on the pieces that were timeless and could easily be worn over and over again.  I also learned to save on the trendy pieces, knowing that those were the ones people would remember me wearing.

three things

Three things that I think every business woman should own?  A versatile blazer, a tailored pair of black pants and a comfortable pair of *cute* shoes.  This combo is a triple threat in the board room.  No, but really.

I figured a great place to start would be the basics…

A lot of offices don’t allow jeans (mine didn’t!) so I’m not including any denim options.  First up, I’ve rounded up some great business slacks.

The thing that we tend to forget about summer clothes for work is that the AC is being pumped, which means you need to have a blazer or sweater on hand, even on the hottest of days.  Here are some great options.

blazers & sweaters

Personally, I tend to invest more into my shoes.  Comfort is very important to me, but so is the style.  To get both, a lot of times I find I need to spend more.  In a lot of cases, “You get what you pay for” is true when it comes to shoes.

I believe that every woman should own a great pair of nude pumps.  I bought my first pair of Charles David nude pumps back in 2014 and they remain to this day the most comfortable pair I’ve ever owned.  Once I wear them out, I immediately replace them.  They go with everything from jeans, to office wear, to church clothes, to formal attire.

I only included a couple pairs of open toe shoes because a lot of offices will not allow them.  Here are some GREAT shoe options and the majority of them are on pretty major sale.

Did you like this post?  I’m hoping that you found it helpful?  Like I said above, it was a specifically requested blog post, so I hope some of you really enjoyed it. 🙂

PS- my hot pink blazer and white tank top are both ON SALE 50% off with code: FRIEND.

  • You look good Angela!!! So stunning!
Absolutely in love with the pink blazer…

    I work for a sports ministry organization… so I’m happy I can wear whatever I want 😉

  • Wow! Love those clothing items. You looks great in all the pictures. Love the pink jacket and dress. 🙂

  • Jennifer Alexander

I believe I have the exact same white shoes you are wearing in the picture but I have not wore those shoes yet haha. I love pink blazers as well. I have two of them and wore one of them for my engagement photos!

  • Merriann Hiett

I love what you are wearing in this post. Love the bright pink blazer. I have a black and navy blazer in my closet. You can dress them up or down. I also believe in having at least one pair of black, navy and khaki pants. I also learned the hard way with shoes that you get what you pay for.

    • Angela Lanter

That’s 100% truth! You definitely get what you pay for!

  • Holly Blakeburn

I love getting dressed up for work! It doesnt get to happen often since I teach Pre-K. It gets messy at times ?.

  • you look great! You always find the best stuff! You have such a great taste in fashion, beauty , home….EVERYTHING! 🙂

  • Love these outfits. Unfortunately they would get totally wrecked at my manufacturing job. But doesn’t mean I can’t still buy them for my days off.

    • Angela Lanter

They’re great pieces to wear anywhere you need more than just jeans!

  • Kalli Loyd

I’m a nurse, so scrubs for me! I do wish at times I got to be a little more creative with my workwear, but scrubs are comfy and almost like pajamas! Haha. So why complain right? I do love what you came up with though and can always use a great outfit like this for future interviews.

    • Angela Lanter

It’s always nice to have a few good pieces on hand!

  • Laurie Pinnell

I love those shoes you are wearing. I might be able to wear those . It’s hard to find comfortable shoes for me.

  • I LOVE this SO much!!! THANK YOU for putting together this AMAZING blog! I was one of the GG’s that requested this blog! I am so excited to shop it! I greatly needed this. I am in a no jean business world and I’m tired of black. This definitely will brighten my wardrobe!

    • Angela Lanter

YAY! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Thanks, friend!

  • Tiffany Bailey

What a fun post! I don’t work in a place I would EVER want to dress up; I could totally ruin my nice clothes. I’m a chemist and acid and nice things just don’t mix! If the situation ever changes, I’ll know right where to go for inspiration!

    • Angela Lanter

These are great pieces to have on hand for weddings and parties too!

  • Kelly Cabana

Those pants look so comfy! Thank you for the recommendation!

  • Brandi McGovney

Girl! That’s a sharp outfit! Makes me miss getting dressed up a little bit! (Been living in loungewear!) I’m a nurse, so when I’m not in scrubs, I’m in yoga pants, but I’m given the opportunity occasionally to get dressed up and meet with leadership and out of state team members. THIS is exactly the type of outfit I would like to rock!!

    • Zazou-land

      Same for me ( i m a midwife) scrubs or pajamas ?
But this article certainely makes you want to put a little bit of effort in for the road between home and hospital !

    • Angela Lanter

Thanks, Brandi!! These are great pieces to have on hand for those occasions!

  • Khristin Nida

Absolutely love this blog post, I need all the work inspiration.

  • Courtney

Awesome post I work in an office and although it is business casual if you dress the part you are more likely to earn respect plus there is a correlation with confidence. blazers are mt absolute favourite to wear. i tend to wear a lot of short boots so im looking for more summer shoe staples. another great post

  • Shannon G

Umm these outfits are the BEST for work ? loving the pants! Thanks for the info! ?

  • I need some new work clothes and a colorful yet classy blazer would be a nice addition. Love all of these

  • Wow thank you for these tips. It was really helpful. I haven’t been looking on your bkog posts in a while. I just need to! Your tips are amazing! Thank you!

  • Ya know I almost forgot about penny loafers lol ? and this reminds me ..I really need a pair of paper bag pants ???

  • Victoria

Love this outfit ?? And all of those other pieces are so cute makes me what a corporate job so I can dress it up this way as well ??

  • When we return to the work place (likely 2021) I think we will be switching to a business casual attire which is awesome and this post goes hand in hand!

  • Victoria

Thanks for these incredible ideas! I have an internship I am preparing for next summer (yes, I am THAT extra preparing for it a year in advance) and these are some great staples for my interior designer wardrobe I need to start creating! I definitely will enjoy dressing up for work as well and look forward to making a statement with my work AND my outfit!

  • Mindy Diegel

That pink blazer is epic!!! I love a good blazer. With my new job I had to change up the work clothes. I take public transit then have to walk 6 blocks so I can not wear all my layers to work. I have to wear my base layers, then pack my jackets or sweaters for when I get to the office. If I wear them to work I will roast lol! I love a good pair of shoes too. I’m on the hunt for a good pair of navy flats, if you find any let me know! ?

    • Angela Lanter

I definitely tend to splurge on blazers! They’re so great for so many different occasions, not just the office.

  • This is giving me some inspiration to change up my work style – I’m a Primary School teacher (hopefully I’ll be back teaching them soon ??) and my school is pretty relaxed about what I can wear – plus I teach 6/7 year olds so it can get messy on some days BUT I want to switch to my style to be a little bit more sophisticated so there’s some great ideas here! ❤️

  • Nice! I am hoping someday i don’t have to wear business casual for work but until then love the recommendations. ?

  • Nadya Voytovich

Angela, you did it again! You put together yet another great piece. This is exactly what I needed since I’ll probably be working in an office come this fall so I want to make sure I hit the ground running with all the staple pieces to be comfortable and stylish. I know I can always count on you to deliver just that! Thank you!

  • Rebekah R

Do I get to wear business clothes at work, no. Did I sit and read this entire post anyway. Yes lol. Maybe one day I’ll be a boss like you and be able to create my own path. I admire you so much.

  • Lisa Groundwater

I used to hate work wear! I would always keep my ‘work wardrobe’ completely separate from my other clothes and generally just didn’t care about the pieces I wore to the office.

Now I would be completely different, although I no longer work in an office, I really feel that your clothes are there to be worn and you should just enjoy your wardrobe every day and not keep it for special days!

Love your blog posts, I’m mainly follow you on insta (lmgroonie) but when I have time I look at your blog and YouTube too! xx

  • Brittany Blackburn

This post is very timely for me since I may be headed to work for corporate America.

  • Peerli Reynolds

I have a thing for big soft blankets, so need a new one

  • Great office staple pieces!! Love the bright colors!!

  • Britian Schaefer

This is perfect! Thank you for sharing. I am getting ready to start a new job and I’ve been looking for some fresh new pieces – especially pants! I feel like I never think of pants, I’m always drawn more towards tops and shoes! For obvious reasons!!

  • Jennifer Baker

Hi Angela, I love this look! This is sort of intimate but I know that you are usually ok with that… what bras are you wearing lately? You look fantastic and as a mom that breastfed (and I am now done!) I need to breath a little life back into my bra collection. I have read your old bra post but wasn’t sure if you have updated after Kenny Girl! Thanks 🙂

    • Angela Lanter

Thank you, Jennifer! I’ll do an updated bra and undies post for you!!

  • Lindsey Clayton

You can never go wrong with a great blazer! I have a blush pink blazer that is my go to for so many outfits! Thanks for the great tips!

  • TRACY MELDRUM

Before my mother retired, she was the executive assistant to the mayor and council in my hometown on the East Coast! She worked for City Hall for 43 years! So, I grew up at City Hall. You are SO RIGHT with that AC comment. I always used to say to my mom that it was “freezing” in here. lol! like, turn the AC off!
    Great round up 🙂
