13 Current Must Have Beauty Products

150 150 Hello Gorgeous by Angela Lanter

I’ve been on the move lately.  Actually, I don’t even know where my home is, we’ve moved that many times.  With all this moving business, I’ve realized that there are some things that I don’t ever leave home (wherever that is) without.  I wanted to share a few of my current must-have, holy grail beauty products.

Must Have Beauty Products Angela Lanter Hello Gorgeous

  1. beautyblender.  This magic pink sponge has the power to give you a perfectly flawless finish.  I use my beautyblender to apply my liquid, cream and powder face products.  In fact, I filmed a video about my beautyblender and why I love it so much (watch here).  We traveled to Charleston, SC last weekend, and when we arrived I realized that I forgot all of my makeup brushes except my beautyblender.  I somehow managed to do my makeup all three days with only my bb and q-tips, which got me thinking…  Should I film a travel video/challenge on how I do my makeup when I forget my brushes?  Leave a comment and let me know!
  2. Makeup Eraser.  One of my amazing Gorgeous Girls sent me a Makeup Eraser in the mail and it rocked. my. WORLD.  So much so, that I bought one for both my mom and my mother-in-law.  It’s magic, I tell ya.  It somehow manages to remove every bit of dirt and makeup from your face without having to scrub your skin.
  3. Kat Von D Lock-It Setting Powder.  Before I apply my beloved Hoola Bronzer or tarte Contour Palette, I first apply this setting powder.  It sets your foundation and helps to prevent oxidation throughout the day.
  4. SkinCeuticals Blemish + Age Defense.  Even one year after coming off birth control, I’m still battling acne issues.  My esthetician recommended Blemish Defense and I’ve been using it to spot treat new break outs.  The results have been awesome so far, which meant I just had to share this product with y’all!
  5.  Clarisonic Mia.  I can’t live without my Clarisonic brush.  I use it on the days I wear makeup, after I remove my makeup, for a deep clean.  Just a reminder ladies, the Clarisonic deeps cleans but it does NOT exfoliate (Refinery 29 talks more about it here).  You still should include exfoliation in your skincare regimen.
  6. Sulwhasoo BB Cushion.  I’m a huge fan of BB creams.  I only wear foundation when I have major skin issues or I’m going to be on camera.  BB Creams provide SPF with light coverage while helping to even out your skin tone.
  7. Laneige Lip Mask.  I can’t go to bed at night unless my skin is clean and my face and lips are properly moisturized.  This lip mask keeps my lips feeling hydrated so I wake up to a smooth, fresh smile.
  8. Clarins Restorative Total Eye Concentrate.  If you watched my Beauty Room/Makeup Collection Tour, then you know I have a lot of makeup and beauty products.  It’s very rare for me to finish an entire bottle of something before moving on to something else.  This eye cream made that rare list.  I loved the way it left my eye area feeling hydrated after each use.
  9. Revlon Ultimate All-In-One Mascara.  This mascara is holy grail for me because it lengthens while plumping your lashes.  It helps hold curl but still separates, all while costing less than $10.
  10. Avene Thermal Spring Water.  I keep this mist on hand to set my makeup or spritz my face throughout the day for a makeup refresh.  It’s great for sensitive skin, especially if you’re suffering from irritation.  I also use it to spritz my face after a mask but before further product application to keep my skin hydrated.
  11. Paul Mitchell Curling Wand.  I’ve become so spoiled by this set.  It gets extremely hot, which allows me to curl my hair faster than ever.  It comes with three different barrels to create different styles.
  12. L’Occitane Amande Almond Milk Concentrate.  This moisturizer is luxury in a jar.  Every time I introduce it to someone, they’re blown away by how silky the formula is…  Then how amazing your skin feels after it’s applied.  Bonus: the scent is incredible.
  13. Dove Body Wash.  I hate when I shower, then feel dried out.  I’ve loved Dove products for years (the only bar soap I’ll buy!).  Their body wash helps to keep your skin feeling hydrated and soft even after a super hot shower, like I like to take.  I recently tried their Deep Moisture Shower Foam and absolutely loved it.  It’s a lightweight foam that I use in place of shaving cream, but it still leaves my favorite Dove scent behind.

What are some of your can’t live without beauty products?  C’mon, I know you have some!  Leave them for me in the comments below!

150 150 Hello Gorgeous by Angela Lanter

Happy first day of Spring!  One of my favorite ways to pass time is to listen to podcasts.  I love to listening while doing chores around the house, working in my office or driving.  I listen to a wide variety of podcasts and often get questions after I post on my social media about what I’m listening to.  Here’s a list of my favorite shows all in one post for you to check out and chime in on.

I wasn’t sure whether to separate out the shows based on genre or not…  So, I decided to make a list of my favorites in no particular order.

Favorite Podcasts

  • You Must Remember This.  This is probably my very favorite podcast.  I’m such a lover of Old Hollywood and this show dives into different actors each episode.  It explores the different facts and rumors surrounding the hey day of the Golden Era.  I’ve not listened to every single episode yet, but only because I’m trying to pace myself so I have more episodes to look forward to.  I’ve learned so much about the scandals and secrets that were hidden away by the studios for years.
  • Building Relationships.  The famed Dr. Gary Chapman, who is the genius behind “The Five Love Languages,” hosts a fantastic show all about the various types of relationships in your life.  I love listening to his practical, Biblical answers and suggestions.
  • Serial.  This is the podcast that got Matt & I interested in the murder mystery genre.  I’m not a terribly huge fan because I feel like the seasons are far too stretched out, but I felt like I needed to list it because Serial deserves full credit for sparking my interest into the world of crime drama.
  • This is Your Life with Michael Hyatt.  This podcast is especially geared towards business professionals and entrepreneurs.  I love his practical business advice.
  • MarriageToday.  This Christian marriage podcast is easily digestible and full of Biblical wisdom.  The only complaint I have is the multiple advertisements each episode, but I understand why they do it.
  •  Up and Vanished.  Matt & my latest obsession and I can’t. Stop. LISTENING.  I’m obsessed.  We’re currently on episode 10 and I’m dying to finish it.  This series is about the disappearance of a small-town Georgia beauty queen in 2006.  She literally up and vanished without a trace.  The host dives in and develops so much information each episode.  The episodes are under 30 minutes and move very quickly, which I love.  PLEASE NO SPOILERS IN THE COMMENTS!!!
  • Online Marketing Made Easy.  This podcast is incredible for my fellow bloggers.  I love the information that Amy Porterfield fills each episode with.

A couple other shows I listen to and enjoy are Heather Dubrow’s World (because I love Real Housewives of OC), Tony Robbins Podcast (but they don’t upload on a regular schedule), Focus on the Family: Focus on Marriage (each episode under 10 minutes!), Smart Passive Income and Matt loves Relic Radio Thrillers (old radio shows from the 1940s).

Are you a podcast fan?  Leave a comment and let me know which shows you’re loving and regularly listening to!

I’m tackling one more love topic in our special Girl Talk Tuesday series.  It’s not a happy topic.  In fact it’s a topic that most of us want to avoid at all costs…  Yet it’s something that most of us will experience at some point in our love lives…  Breakups.

If you’re like me, you’ve been through a breakup (or ten) in your life, and you have handled at least one of them all wrong.  It’s easy to let your emotions take over in these situations, I know.  But once the breakup happens, the hardest part comes…  Getting over it.

Practical Tips of How to Get Over a Breakup:

  1. Allow yourself time to be sad.  I’m not talking months or years here, but I am talking about a reasonable amount of time to allow your heart to hurt.  I believe that a broken heart is some of the worst pain we humans endure.
  2. Don’t badmouth him.  While the wounds are fresh, your emotions are obviously maxed out.  This is not the time to tell anyone who will listen every bad thing he ever did…  Especially not his family or his friends.  Talk to your most trusted friends only.  Otherwise, keep the details private until you’re in a better place.
  3. Understand that each relationship is a learning experience.  It may not feel like it at first, but you learn something valuable from each relationship you’re in.  My aunt used to say that every guy I dated was a stepping stone to the right man.
  4. Focus on yourself.  After a breakup, there’s nothing you can say or do to change your ex.  The good news is that you can change yourself.  Use this time to evaluate where you are in life and work on who you want to become.
  5. Don’t Allow it to start bad habits.  Don’t allow yourself to get so depressed that you do things you normally wouldn’t do.  If you see yourself starting to pick up bad habits, check yourself before you wreck yourself.  Yes a carton of Ben & Jerry’s and a good cry will make you feel better in the moment…  Just don’t do it every single night.
  6. Put the reminders away.  Put away the photos and old shirts of his.  Don’t toss them just because you’re angry…  These are memories of a certain period of your life that you may just want to look back on one day (or not)…  But for now, find a box and pack them away, out of view.
  7. Turn off the sad songs.  Sometimes you need to wallow, I get it.  But once you’ve had your time to be sad, shut the sad music off.  Music has such a grasp on our emotions.  When I was in high school, my ex-boyfriend & my song was Brian McKnight’s “Back At One”.  When we broke up the first time, every time that song came on the radio it felt like my 15 year old heart was being ripped out of my chest.  It was a 3 minute long reminder of something that was over.  I had to learn that the second I heard that familiar tune, the station needed to be changed.
  8. Write.  Have too many emotions to deal with?  Trying writing them down.  Writing down how you feel then reading it back to yourself can sometimes be such a healing experience.

I’m a serial monogamist.  I’ve only ever been in serious relationships, so the breakups I’ve been through have been hard.  Every tough experience I went through shaped me into the woman I am today.  Remember that the pain you’re feeling, the situation you’re in, it’s all just a season.  Even when you feel like the world is crashing down around you, know that you are stronger than you realize.

If you’re going through a breakup, I understand how hurt you are.  I’ve found that in my breakups are the times that I learned to lean on God the most.  When I couldn’t see why I had to go through the hurt, He provided a comfort that I couldn’t get anywhere else.
