Saturday Six – April Recap

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve done a Saturday Six!  I love these posts because it’s just a fun way for me to quickly share six things with y’all.  These are some of the things I’ve been loving in April. 😊

1. Let’s kick things off with my latest YouTube video.  Yesterday I posted a video all about Hunter Boots.  I wear my rain boots all the time, so I thought it would be fun to create a video about my experience with them.  Leave a comment on YouTube if you have Hunters and let me know what you think about them!

2. Royal Highnies PJs.  I fell in love with these insanely soft PJs while vacationing recently in 30A.  The Royal Highnies team was kind enough to send me a care package which I gave a sneak peek of on Instagram Stories yesterday.  I ran a full test on these jammies by sleeping in them last night and I’m not exaggerating when I tell you they are the softest I have ever felt!

3. Bistro Chairs.  I’ve had my eye on bistro chairs ever since we visited Paris.  I snagged a pair of these chairs for $175, which was an awesome price.  The quality is amazing and they’re going to be so adorable on our patio!

4. Biore Self Heating Mask.  Another post from my Instagram Stories is this mask.  It’s a one minute self-heating mask that feels so nice on your skin.  You can purchase a box with 4 masks for only $7.50 here.

5. Homegoods Lanterns.  I’ve been a Homegoods fiend for a while now.  I love that you can walk in and discover something new for your home that you didn’t know that you couldn’t live without.  The downside?  It’s almost always impossible to find a matching pair of anything.  I did score these amazing distressed wood lanterns this week for $25 each.  I can’t wait to see them on our new patio table!  In case you love them as much as I do, I found them on Wayfair for you to shop as well!

6. Chrome Nails.  After man years of acrylics, I decided to take a break from them this week.  My nails were pretty long because I only had an overlay at this point, so I decided to go with a gel manicure.  I chose this rose gold chrome gel polish and I’m totally obsessed.  I don’t know the name or brand, but I can tell you that my nail tech used a bright coral gel polish then applied a fine, loose glitter on top for the chrome affect.

Fresh New Life Goals for Spring

At this point, I’m as tired of apologizing for my absence from Hello Gorgeous as you probably are of hearing my “sorry’s”.  After a very transitional past two months (actually, more like past year) we are finally back home in LA and in our new home.  Here’s where the plot thickens…  We’re in a basically empty new home.  Someone had the bright idea of starting from scratch with the furniture since it was a new space.  Hint: it wasn’t Matt.

Anyways, I’ve been knee deep in wood, linen and rug samples, and quite honestly, I’m enjoying every second of it.  We’ve been in design mode since we arrived back home.  It’s really perfect timing when you think about it.  Personally, I associate Spring with fresh starts, new goals and clean slates.  Yes, that’s what New Years is all about, I know, but I never seem to really get motivated to start things up until the temperatures start to warm up.

I wanted to do a check in with my Gorgeous Girls about fresh, new goals for 2017.  Many of you set goals on January 1st, but many of your goals have changed in the past few months.  This is a great time to reassess what you realistically want to achieve over the course of this year.

What are my goals for 2017?  I’m so glad you asked!  I want to focus on our home.  I want to create a space that is warm, inviting and cozy.  With all of the traveling we do, I want our home to be our haven.  When we return to our house, I want to walk in the door, take a look around and uncontrollably sigh out of relief to be there.

I also want to make my health a priority.  I have barely exercised at all of the past year.  Honestly, it’s embarrassing.  Heart disease runs rampant in my family, so I can’t afford to not take care of myself.  I’ve been running with Matt the past couple of weeks and started doing yoga at home.  My goal isn’t to lose weight, but to be healthy and toned.

I try to make healthy choices about my diet pretty consistently (of course I like to splurge as well) but I want to buckle down even more this year.  I plan on including more fruits and veggies in our menu.  I share a lot of my recipes on Snapchat and Insta-Stories.  I recently posted a Healthy Breakfast Ideas YouTube video, so check that out if you missed it.  Let me know if you’d like to see a blog post or video about what I eat in a day or what’s in my fridge, as well as more recipes.

I plan to be more consistent with scheduling time for my daily devotions as well.  I have to remind myself that my body is my temple.  God gave me only one body and put me in charge of caring for it.

Let me know in the comments section what your goals are for the rest of 2017.  I’m considering sharing some of my home design process on my blog with y’all, so let me know if you’d like to see some of my design inspiration.

My Favorite Podcasts

Happy first day of Spring!  One of my favorite ways to pass time is to listen to podcasts.  I love to listening while doing chores around the house, working in my office or driving.  I listen to a wide variety of podcasts and often get questions after I post on my social media about what I’m listening to.  Here’s a list of my favorite shows all in one post for you to check out and chime in on.

I wasn’t sure whether to separate out the shows based on genre or not…  So, I decided to make a list of my favorites in no particular order.

Favorite Podcasts

  • You Must Remember This.  This is probably my very favorite podcast.  I’m such a lover of Old Hollywood and this show dives into different actors each episode.  It explores the different facts and rumors surrounding the hey day of the Golden Era.  I’ve not listened to every single episode yet, but only because I’m trying to pace myself so I have more episodes to look forward to.  I’ve learned so much about the scandals and secrets that were hidden away by the studios for years.
  • Building Relationships.  The famed Dr. Gary Chapman, who is the genius behind “The Five Love Languages,” hosts a fantastic show all about the various types of relationships in your life.  I love listening to his practical, Biblical answers and suggestions.
  • Serial.  This is the podcast that got Matt & I interested in the murder mystery genre.  I’m not a terribly huge fan because I feel like the seasons are far too stretched out, but I felt like I needed to list it because Serial deserves full credit for sparking my interest into the world of crime drama.
  • This is Your Life with Michael Hyatt.  This podcast is especially geared towards business professionals and entrepreneurs.  I love his practical business advice.
  • MarriageToday.  This Christian marriage podcast is easily digestible and full of Biblical wisdom.  The only complaint I have is the multiple advertisements each episode, but I understand why they do it.
  •  Up and Vanished.  Matt & my latest obsession and I can’t. Stop. LISTENING.  I’m obsessed.  We’re currently on episode 10 and I’m dying to finish it.  This series is about the disappearance of a small-town Georgia beauty queen in 2006.  She literally up and vanished without a trace.  The host dives in and develops so much information each episode.  The episodes are under 30 minutes and move very quickly, which I love.  PLEASE NO SPOILERS IN THE COMMENTS!!!
  • Online Marketing Made Easy.  This podcast is incredible for my fellow bloggers.  I love the information that Amy Porterfield fills each episode with.

A couple other shows I listen to and enjoy are Heather Dubrow’s World (because I love Real Housewives of OC), Tony Robbins Podcast (but they don’t upload on a regular schedule), Focus on the Family: Focus on Marriage (each episode under 10 minutes!), Smart Passive Income and Matt loves Relic Radio Thrillers (old radio shows from the 1940s).

Are you a podcast fan?  Leave a comment and let me know which shows you’re loving and regularly listening to!
