Ipsy Bags + Winter Fashion

When Birchbox got to be pretty popular last year, I hopped on the bandwagon. But after about 8 months of receiving monthly Birchboxes, I cancelled my subscription. The last several boxes were downright disappointing (I got a Luna bar in my Birchbox! Come on people!) Only a few short days or so after canceling, I discovered Ipsy thanks to my beautiful cousin, Jenny! And let me tell you, Ipsy has not disappointed. It’s like Christmas morning every time I open my mailbox and there’s a new Ipsy bag!
For those of you unfamiliar with Ipsy, it’s a makeup bag you receive once a month packed full of fun little beauty related treasures. You pay $9.99 per month for the service. Check out for more information.
Today I received my most recent Ipsy bag and below is a photo to show all the goodies I received. This month’s bag came packed full with a mini makeup bag (you get a new one each month!), a concealer brush, Big Sexy Hair volumizing hairspray, Tuscan Blood Orange body butter, Josie Maran Argan Oil & Nailtini nail polish in Bloody Mary. I used to use Big Sexy Hair products all the time, so I already know that I love this line. Everything else is a first for me, which makes getting my Ipsy bag so exciting.. I’m being introduced to new products and new brands each month! If you’re not signed up, I really suggest that you give it a try for a few months!
I also wanted to give you a little peak of my winter fashion.. LA style! I don’t love cold weather.. Actually I hate cold weather. But I do love my nights snuggled up in a blanket by the fire watching movies. Oh and I really love hot chocolate! So how to keep it cute while keeping warm? Here’s my best attempt at keeping fashionably warm πŸ™‚

Today I’m wearing my Zara coat, infinity scarf from Kaitlyn and Naughty Monkey foldover boots. Gold rings are from Brandy Melville and TopShop. Keep warm, lovelys!

The Carrie Diaries

In the past couple of years, I’ve become a major fan of the Sex and the City series.. I’ve recently seen what I believe to be every. single. episode. twice. And I love it. I’ve watched it on Style and E! because I feel a whole lot better watching the edited version. But the style.. And the shoes.. Iconic. Carrie Bradshaw and Big?! Die. (Although I’m an Aidan girl too!)
In the first movie, my heart literally stopped when I saw the girls in their wedding get-ups. I mean come on. Who doesn’t dream of their wedding gown and bridesmaid dresses being so insanely beautiful?! A bride with feathers? So very Carrie.
So when I heard that there was going to be a prequel to Sex and the City, I must say.. I was blown away. I mean why mess with perfection? Carrie Bradshaw is one of the most loved television characters of all time! How can they reinvent the magic and the fashion and the friendships and the shoes and the love affairs and the SHOES?
Very skeptically I watched the premiere of the Carrie Diaries. I love AnnaSophia Robb, I mean she was outstanding in Soul Surfer and all, but can there ever really be another Carrie Bradshaw? I think the idea is great, taking the audience back to where it all started, in high school when Carrie begins her love affair with Manhattan.. But it just didn’t quite do it for me. You know why? The fashion. Let’s be real for a second. Would Carrie Bradshaw ever be caught dead wearing an open hoodie in a social setting (i.e. high school)?
However, the outfit she donned at the party towards the end of the show.. Now that was definitely the fabulous Miss Bradshaw circa 1984.
All in all, I can’t say that I’m a fan of the series yet, but I also don’t hate it. So I’m going to keep watching for now, hoping that they can get to the heart of where Carrie really did come from and show how her amazing fashion sense came to be.
And in the mean time, there’s always this guy to keep us entertained!

Mawmaw's Chicken Soup Recipe

Whenever my fiancΓ© starts getting sick, I know it’s time to make a batch of my Grandma’s chicken soup.. Because if anything can make you feel better, homemade chicken soup will do the trick. My grandma goes by Mawmaw and pretty much everyone calls her that. My whole life Mawmaw has made this dish and served it with hot fresh biscuits.. Talk about a comfort food! I always make this from memory, so today I did my best to measure everything out as best as possible so you can make the world’s best cold remedy in your own kitchen!
– 1 lb. of chicken. We prefer dark meat, but you can use any pieces you like.
– 1 cup chopped carrots
– 1 box of pasta of your choice
– fresh ground black pepper (to taste)
– 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
– 4 tbsp. chicken base. Add more if needed.
– Cream of Chicken Soup
– 2 cups of chicken stock
– large soup pot filled about 1/2 way with water
– 1 tbsp. butter
Bring your water, carrots, chicken stock, black pepper, garlic powder, chicken base & butter to a boil. Add chicken (I remove the skins from the chicken before boiling.) Boil till chicken is fully cooked- I usually cook it for about 20-25 mins. Remove chicken for broth and cut off the bone into bite size pieces then add chicken pieces back to the broth. If your broth has cooked down, add a cup or two of hot water. Add in pasta and cook according to box directions. Once fully cooked, taste to see if additional chicken base, salt or pepper needs added. Don’t forget to serve with hot buttered biscuits!! Enjoy!
I forgot to add the Cream of Chicken Soup in the ingredients pictures.. Whoops!
