In the past 3 1/2 years of blogging, I’ve never taken this long of a break from posting before.  Sometimes life gets in the way of everything and that’s exactly what happened.  We found out that Matt’s new show, Timeless, was getting picked up for Fall on the Friday afternoon before last which meant we needed to be on a flight that Sunday morning to NYC for NBC Upfronts.  We basically had 36 hours to get our lives in order.

Then came NYC.  I always enjoy visiting New York, but this trip was honestly a blur.  The crazy intense schedule mixed with the time change left me totally sick.  I don’t care what anyone says, that 3 hour time difference between East and West Coast kicks my butt every single time.  I got on the plane to fly home to LA on Tuesday feeling like death warmed over.  Matt almost took me to the ER when we got home, I was so miserable.  I stayed in bed recovering most of Wednesday and Thursday (as much as I possibly could).

On Friday, my sweet blogger friends McKenna Bleu and Megan Runion arrived for the weekend.  If you follow me on Snapchat (angelalanter), then you already saw how much fun we had!  We brunched in style in Beverly Hills.  Cracked up at the Groundlings (LA version of SNL mixed with improv).  We shopped at the Santa Monica Promenade.  We also ate our way through most of LA.  Basically, a fun time was had by all.  I love when they come to visit because they motivate me to be a better blogger.

I snatched up this super cozy sweater during our Santa Monica shopping trip on Sunday.  I took the girls to Brandy Melville for (I think) their first time.  I’ve been shopping at Brandy for as long as I’ve lived in LA.  It’s one of my very favorite stores to score casual, simple pieces like tees and bralettes.  On Sunday night, I Snapchatted a quick haul of all the goodies I picked up at the store.  I wore this outfit while running around town doing a bunch of errands.  This look is super casual and not something I would typically blog, but I realized that sometimes you need some real life outfit inspo.  Not every woman is getting dressed to the 9’s every day of her life (I’m certainly not!) and this look is for us “real girls,” ya know?  These pieces will all be on repeat throughout the summer for me, which is why I wanted to show you some of my summer staple pieces all in one post.

I live for a great pair of denim shorts in the summer.  My go to brand for denim lately has been Levi’s and no one does denim shorts like them.  These 501’s are comparable to the highly coveted One Teaspoon bandit shorts that every one and their mother (I’m included!) had to have last summer, but they’re more budget friendly (+$30 less and free shipping!)

PS-  Matt & I caught up on Game of Thrones last night…  My mind is blown.  I need counseling.  How did I not have “Hold the door” nightmares last night?

Brandy Melville Lance Sweater (one size; linked several other options below)  //  Levi’s 501 Denim Shorts  //  Converse Sneakers  //  Anine Bing Lace Bra  //  Chloe Sunnies  //  Red Dress Boutique Saddle Bag  //  Baublebar Snow Leopard Links Bracelet  //  Baublebar Gold Mary Links Bracelet  //  Kate Spade Crystal Bangle  //  Michael Kors Rose Gold Watch

Sizing Info:  Wearing shorts in size 25 (sized down from my usual 26.  Honestly, I probably could easily have gone with a size 24, they run that big), sneakers in size 7 and lace bra in XS.

  • Hi Angela! Love the look, you look amazing in anything! I’m so jealous! You should definitely post more demin shorts and “casual” outfits. I would love to have some inspiration. I hope you’re feeling better from NYC and 100%. Can’t wait for more posts!!

    • Angela Lanter

Thanks Gracia!! You’re so sweet. 🙂
I definitely post more casual outfits in the summer because when it’s hot, I just want to be comfortable, ya know? 🙂

  • Love this! Also, just saw your OOTD on Snapchat, and I am a little disappointed you weren’t tocking the camo Crocs. LOL!

  • Thank you for this post. I love this casual look. As a mom who is finally reconnecting to her feminine and pre baby look. I want to say thank you for this blog. It has allowed me to find cute things at a reasonable price. I love converse but another favorite of mine is the sebago bala (3 pairs). You need to check them out. They are awesome. They remind me of the felize slip on you wear.

    • Angela Lanter

I’m definitely going to check the Sebago Balas out! I love a comfy shoe recommendation! I don’t find Converse to be super comfortable, do you?

      • merriann

No. Converse are great for a short while. Sperry makes an awesome tennis shoe. They are called the searacer water shoe. I love them for a casual wear and I also use them on the treadmill at my house. They are washable. Merrell are another great tennis shoe but I’ll be honest they are not the prettiest shoe to look at. Merrells are great for hiking , mountain biking etc. very comfortable. I spent a lot of time hiking and mountain biking so they are awesome. If you have ever seen the movie Sweet Home Alabama. . The Carmichael Plantation is really Martha Berry’s home which is located on the campus of Berry College in Rome , Ga. It is a breathtaking campus and has tons oof hiking and mountain biking trails. Not to mention a beautiful campus to just take a day and have a picnic at swan lake. Also camp winshape..that chic fil a sponsors is located here.

        • Angela Lanter

I’ve never tried on Sperry flats before, can you believe it? I do own their duck boots, and love them, so I need to check out their other shoes.
I asked Matt about Berry College, he doesn’t think he’s been there. He grew up in NE Atlanta and my family lives in Chattanooga area and on the TN/GA line so I love hearing about places in that part of the country. 🙂

Oh you were missed <3 So happy you're well now, congratulations on Matt's show, it's gonna be amazing, I'm sure.

I l o v e d the combination of the sweater and this bra. I'm a fan of cozy clothes, but I've never thought of wearing something lace underneath, gonna try it as soon as possible (I still believe it will get warmer than 64 in Moscow one day, ha).

And this peach nail polish, I'm in love. I love to combine pastel colors with my metallic Essie nail polish (like revers french or something of this sort).

I had to go to work right after I watched the episode of GoT (different time zones), but I literally showed up with no makeup on and had to put it on later, because I was crying like an idiot. Also, why do they hate Starks' direwolves so much? It breaks my heart.
Khaleesi was slaying though. And I loved that Sansa is finally getting stronger and growing as a character.

    • Angela Lanter

Thanks Alexandra! I love wearing lacey bralettes because they peek out just enough (with the right top) to give a bit of femininity to your look.
The wolf scene about killed me! How many are left now? Just Jon Snow’s? I have a theory to GoT and every new episode only makes my theory stronger! 🙂

      • Alexandra

Arya’s Nymeria is alive as well, she bit Joffrey in the first season, and Arya let her go, so Sansa’s wolf was killed instead. In the books Nymeria is the head of a wolf pack.

I love hearing theories! What yours is about?
I just came up with a though that Theon and Yara are probably heading to meet Danny with their fleet. How sick would it be if they try to conquer Westeros together?

        • Angela Lanter

That’s right!! Surprisingly, I haven’t read the books. I say surprisingly because I love to read, but I tried with the first one but I couldn’t get into it (which is unusual for me).
My theory is that the kingdoms will be conquered by a trio (much like the Biblical Father, Son & Holy Ghost) and I think that it’s Daenerys Targaryen, Jon Snow and Bran Stark. I think they’re all three related (I think Jon & Khaleesi have the same mother). I used to think it would be Tyrian and not Bran, but the more the Bran storyline develops, the more I think it’s him. Eeeek! I love this show so much!

      • Alexandra

I tried to read the first one too, but it was too hard to do in English, I want to buy a translated copy when my reading list is empty. I think these books are getting way more exciting when you suffer through the beginning 🙂 Anyways, a friend of mine read it all, so it feels like I already know everything.

Yes! In the books there is a prophecy that says “The dragon has three heads”, so there must be something of this kind. I think about Daenerys, Jon and Tyrion, it seems to me that Bran has a different role, probably even a bigger one considering his gift (all Ned’s children are wargs, btw, but Bran is the strongest one and the only one who has visions). There already are theories saying that he’s Bran the Builder (he built the Wall) and many more. Didn’t you ever think that Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark can be Jon’s parents?

It’s amazing how these books and the show make your imagination work.

        • Angela Lanter

I’ve thought about listening to them on Audible, but I’m afraid it may put me to sleep lol!
My brain could go to a million different places with this show!!
